Just like waiting ages for a bus only to see three come along at the same time, Wincanton is about to have three mini markets, all happening on the same day. But that's just the beginning.

As part of a drive by local retailers to pep up the High Street on Saturday afternoons, three mini monthly markets will launch on Saturday September 21st, 10am-4pm, to be repeated each third Saturday of the month.

Children aged 12 years and under will have stalls at Coles Yard Courtyard Market, joining local traders, foragers, musicians and environmental groups. Meanwhile, down at Market Place, teenagers will show off their wares along with local creatives, from ceramicists to jewellers.

To add to the party atmosphere there’ll be live music in more than one venue; from folk to buskers, face-painting, candy floss and a graffiti artist. Througout the town there'll be community produced street art, and eye-catching costumes galore (at least one clown and an ardent Terry Pratchett fan are calling for like-minded people to join them).

The free Seed Market selfie booth will take up position next to the Post Office, complete with costumes and make-up; a prize going to the person posting the best image on social media along with the hashtag #wincantonseedmarket.

There’ll be crafty workshops and a clothes swap in Bootmakers, make-your-own art at the Seed Café across the road, and regular creative master classes run by textile artist Tamsyn Gregory taking place at Shop at No 4, next door.

Wincanton Seed Market is the brainchild of a group of people devoted to breathing new life into the High Street. Grown from a handful of simple questions centred on what sort of town community they would like to nurture, a multi-faceted project has grown and grown, until the town centre has effectively been booked for a whole town party, every third Saturday of each month.

The launch of Wincanton Seed Market coincides with Somerset Art Weeks, during which the local creative community has organised another whole programme of activities and exhibitions by local artists all over the Town, including the brand new Wincanton Art Trail, and the anticipated opening of Zac Greening's Greening the Earth gallery in the old Clementina building.

It’s hard to sum up such a heady concoction of ideas, talents and entertainment but volunteer organisers, notably Wincanton Town Council, Seed Café, Coles Yard, Bootmakers Workshop and the Balsam Centre are throwing the town a monthly party, to which you are all invited!
