Wincanton Film Society - "Never Let Me Go"

Tuesday 22 May 2012, 13:21
By John Smith

Never Let Me Go movie posterNever Let Me Go is being screened tonight, Tuesday 22 May, by WFS at King Arthur's School and is another goodie.

Look at the way this world of ours is going, with technology advancing at a speed that never seems to slow down. We think of technology mostly as computers; however we often forget about the advances made in other fields.

We have reached a place and time when stem cells are being used to help ailing bodies recover from serious illnesses. The big question is...

How far should we use such advances? When do we cross a line when what we do is clearly wrong? Who should define what is right and what is wrong?

This film is one that will take you to the very edge of reason. Sadly I won't be with you for the screening, but I have seen this film, and it will cause you all to think about this a great deal. You may be tempted to think that "Oh, this will never happen". But it can happen now, and that's the scary bit. The technology is already here when married couples or, indeed, anyone could use technology to design their own child.

So watch this film and let's have your thoughts. We invite your comments on the Wincanton Film Society website where you can see details on the full programme.

The end of the season

The 2011/12 season end is nearly upon us. Last week it was Christmas and now May is nearly gone and June brings our final film, but I'll leave that for next month.

Please remember that WFS is not a private Film Society. WFS is Wincanton's own cinema, screening films monthly from September through to June of the following year. Why not consider joining us as a full member? It makes watching films on the big screen very cheap.
