Wincanton Choral Society Christmas Concert 2019

The Wincanton Choral Society Winter Concert will take place in Wincanton Sports Centre, West Hill, BA9 9SP, where the sports hall will once again be transformed into a concert auditorium on Sunday 8^th December 2019 at 7:30pm (till 9:30pm approx. Doors open at 7pm).

The main works for the choir will be Vivaldi's joyous 'Gloria' and the lesser-known but splendid 'Messe de Minuit' by Charpentier. This setting of the Mass features carols popular in Charpentier's day; he was born slightly before Vivaldi in 1643, in Paris.

To continue the baroque theme the professional orchestra will play Corelli's Concerto Grosso in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8 - the ‘Christmas Concerto’; and, with the choir and soloists, numbers from Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Handel's Messiah. And of course a couple of well-known carols to exercise the audience's own vocal chords!

This will be the choir's first concert with their outstanding new director of music. Katrine Reimers, with her dynamism, musicality and enthusiasm will ensure that this concert performance is superb and very exciting!

Please be advised that as the concert takes place in a sports hall, we request no stiletto heels please. You are welcome to bring a cushion for extra comfort.
