By John Smith

The King's SpeechThe committee at WFS is delighted to announce the start of our eighth film season on Tuesday 20th September 2011 at 7.45pm.

The season kicks off with a home grown major success in The King's Speech which scooped up four awards at the Oscars.

Starring Colin Firth as the man who becomes King George VI (Bertie), and Helena Bonham Carter as his wife, the future Queen Elizabeth, the story tells of Bertie's reluctant accession to the throne after the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII. Plagued by a stammer he acquired in childhood, and terrified at the prospect of the public speaking required of his position, Bertie engages the help of an unconventional speech therapist called Lionel Logue. Logue's unorthodox methods and friendship enable Bertie to finally find his voice and boldly speak to the country as it heads towards war.

Remember, ticket prices are just £5.00 on the door (£4.00 concession) or you can buy a season ticket from £27.00 per annum for ten films. Not bad eh?

We have a small refreshment area open from 7.00pm - 7.40pm where, for a small contribution, you can have a drink and nibbles. You won't need a mortgage to purchase anything here. All you will get is a great evening with like-minded people who enjoy a good film and good company.

One of those rare films which is excellent the first time you see it, and even better the second when you can savour the superb acting and the exceptionally clever, witty and moving screenplay. Most of us in fact had already seen it, but to share it with local people - many you know - in a comfortable setting at King Arthur's with good sound,a big screen and a glass of wine makes joining Wincanton Film Soc really worth while.
