I’m delighted that so many of you have already visited my small flower essence shop at the end of the Applegarth Emporium since I opened last year. After years of working from home, it has been fabulous to have somewhere people can just drop in and ask about what I do, buy the essences, come for a consultation or just a chat. As far as I know, this is the first shop of its kind in the UK where you can come and buy flower essences directly from the person who has made them.

What are flower essences?

For those of you who don’t know, I mostly make flower essences. These are similar to the Bach Flower Remedies (think Rescue Remedy) and are usually taken as drops under the tongue. Flower essences have been made since the 1930s. They don’t contain any material matter of the plant, but only its unique vibration held as a memory in water. They don’t smell either; a common misconception.

Mostly, flower essences are used to help shift negative thought and behaviour patterns and are usually used for emotional rather than physical problems. Some of the issues they can help with are sleep, anxiety, dark thoughts, worrying and self confidence as well as lots more.

During the last fifteen years, since I started making essences, I have seen a massive increase in people wanting to use natural remedies for their well-being, which is so reassuring. Also, more and more people are coming to realise how their mental health affects their physical health and how important it is to look after this, too. Not just for themselves but for the people around them.

A bit about me and my shop

Saskia's Flower Essences, Applegarth Emporium, High Street, Wincanton

My name is Saskia Marjoram. I have always worked with flowers on some level and come from a background in horticulture and floristry. I was assistant florist to the Prince of Wales for a long time, and grew and cut flowers for a living – before it was cool and trendy! I am fascinated by the way we interact with the plants around us. Working with the energy of flowers is second nature to me now, and I love it.

My opening hours at the shop are Monday to Friday, 9:30am - 1:30pm for sales and drop-in chats. In the afternoons I am available for consultations, during which we'll talk about what you want help with and then mix you up your own personal blend of essences.

The cost for this is £35, £25 for children, which includes your essence, but if this really is too much for you, do come and talk to me anyway because I run a ‘pay it forward’ scheme where some people pay more so that those with lower incomes can benefit from essences too.

You can find out more at www.saskiasfloweressences.com, email , or do call in if you want suggestions as to what might help you and your loved ones, or if you'd like to book a consultation. I am right at the end of the Applegarth Emporium, off the High Street, past the fruit and veg shop.
