The programme for Wincanton Choral Society's Christmas concert on December 11th 2011 began with excerpts from Handel's Messiah and was followed by Karl Jenkins' "A Celebration of Christmas" and Morten Lauridsen's "O Magnum Mysterium" There then followed several Christmas carols with some audience participation.

The following letters were received after the concert:

We would like to thank the Blackmore Vale Magazine for allowing us to reproduce this letter from their magazine of 16th December 2011:

Congratulations to Wincanton Choral Society

We attended a Christmas concert given by Wincanton Choral Society. WCS gave a wonderful concert and gave a high standard of performance, leaving us wanting more and hoping to hear about their next concert. They were disciplined, they looked good on stage and the dynamics were exceptional. We particularly enjoyed the choice of music for the second half of the concert. It is good to see a drive for high standards in a choral society.

Congratulations!

The Wincanton Choral Society Christmas Concert, Sunday December 11th

I write to tell you how much I enjoyed the concert on Sunday last; it was a real treat to listen to such wonderful music sung so well. The carols were a joy to hear, but of course the excerpts from the Messiah stole the show.

Anything by Handel is good, but the Messiah stands supreme; the singing was of the highest class and the orchestra performed to perfection.

Katharine Hawnt sang beautifully, and Jacquelyn Bevan played faultlessly. It was wonderful to hear the flute from Sarah de Batz, and the impeccable playing of the strings with Edward Bums.

For me it was a wonderful start to Christmas, and it was a concert to be remembered. Handel's Messiah is a treasured favourite and for me, the rendition of In Dulci Jubilo was very special.

I am most grateful to Simon Twistleton and the Wincanton Choral Society for producing such a delightful evening.

Wincanton Choral Society's Spring concert will be given at Wincanton Sports Centre on Sunday May 20th at 7.30pm.

The programme will begin with Handel's "Zadok the Priest" and continue with Rossini's "Stabat Mater" and Poulenc's "Gloria". A feast of great music.
