Wincanton Town Team needs you!

The town team are busy planning the first pilot Sunday Market for 15th September 2013 and we would love you to get involved in naming the market.

The prize will be officially opening the market and cutting the ribbon! Also, as we hope the market will be around for a long time to come, you will be reminded of your brilliance when you see the branding for the market!

Some suggestions already made are:

• The People's Market
• Wincanton Community Market
• Super Sunday Market

Is there an opportunity to use a Discworld reference?

I'm not overly familiar with Discworld names and terms, but a quick search presented suggests like "Cut-Throat Street Sellers".

Might be worth asking Bernard...

If we MUST have a jazzy souped-up name instead of just calling it what it is - Wincanton Market - then a Discworld reference would at least stand out from everywhere else.

I suppose persuading the councillors to rename the area "Sator Square" is not going to happen...

The Discworld suggestion is cute, but unless the market is going to offer something a bit unique to other markets (AND there really is some kind of theme or association with Discworld besides the name), it could be a bit of a let-down to visitors when they arrive to find the standard fare.

Keep it simple. Wincanton Sunday Market.

"The Shades" would be an appropiate name for the new market. Especially with the present heatwave. The Shades is the most popular area in Ankh-Morpork (Disc World), a place where everyone visits. I am sure that with a name like the Shades, Terry himself would be pleased to open it.

or The New Market, Wincanton. Does what it says and is flexible as it would not be restricted to Sunday and it may be that other days could also be tried out. Otherwise I agree with Mandy's comments.

Many thanks to everybody who participated in the market naming comp. The most popular suggestion and our new name is 'Wincanton Street Market' It allows for flexibility for additional days in the future and has a feeling of businesses and community coming together, just what we want to achieve.
Look forward to seeing you on 15th September starting at 11-3pm
