Lily James in The Guernsey Literature and Potato Peel Pie Society, 2018

A writer (Lily James) forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island in the aftermath of World War II, when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war.

“If the film's intriguing title gives you an appetite, take the leap and have a bite. Having the courage to reach for what you want is the essence of this engaging film that captures not only the imagination but also the heart.

“Adapted from the novel by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer, Four Weddings and a Funeral director Mike Newell uses his considerable skills to weave together a richly layered film that is both uplifting and moving. It encompasses a war story, a mystery tale and a love triangle, while instilling an enticing sense of place for its stunning Guernsey setting.

“Lily James shines as the protagonist, a writer searching for her milieu and direction in life. It's delightful.”

 - Louise Keller, Urban Cinefile

“The handsome period design and likeable performers ensure it remains modestly engrossing, with Penelope Wilton offering by far the sharpest contribution as a grieving widow.”

 - Radio Times

The organisers at Milborne Port have secured financial assistance from the Milborne Port Parish Council which will assist with some of the costs of bringing this film (and the others being shown in the Autumn/Winter and Spring seasons). This assistance means that they can still offer tickets at £5.00 each (£5.50 each on the door). Advance tickets will be on sale from 1st September 2019 at Wayne the Butcher in Milborne Port High Street. Doors open at the Village Hall (located in Springfield Road, Milborne Port, DT9 5RE) at 7.00pm, with the show starting at 7.30pm.
