South Somerset’s film project Where West Begins has teamed up with PR and women’s empowerment activist Lynne Franks on a programme called Power Of Women (POW), to mark International Women’s Day and 100 Years of the Vote for Women.

POW is led by Lynne, who moved to Wincanton last year and was recently awarded an OBE for her services to women. She will be interviewing some women leaders in the community and launching a mentoring scheme for women.

There are three introductory events, one in Yeovil, one in Bristol, and the third in Wincanton on Thursday 8th March.

All events begin with a screening of the film Suffragette (pictured), followed by Lynne Franks interviewing a panel of invited prominent local women, and the launch of mentoring workshops for local women.

The film at Wincanton Town Hall will begin at 6:30pm, and will be followed by Lynne talking to Western Gazette editor Emma Slee and Conservative councillor Faye Purbricke.
