By John Baxter

Bruton Art Society has invited art historian and gallery owner Julian Halsby, a specialist in 19th Century British Art, to give an illustrated lecture on the Pre-Raphaelites and European Symbolism on Thursday 11th October at 7.30pm.

Entrance is £3.00 (free to members), and the venue is Caryford Community Hall Ansford, Castle Cary, BA7 7JJ. This should be a really enjoyable and interesting occasion for anyone with an interest in art.

Beata Beatrix

The Pre-Raphaelites, a 19th century school of English painters, with their luscious and dreamy representations of beautiful women, biblical, mythological and pastoral scenes continue to fascinate and intrigue us. What is more their rich use of colour and sheer skill in drawing and painting continue to inspire contemporary artists turned off by the abstract and brutally modern.
