Today, the charity provides local support services for people with learning disabilities, their families and carers throughout England. These services can be residential or part time, perhaps for no more than a few hours a week.

hft works closely with families, local authorities and other partners to find the best solution to meet a person's needs. This flexible approach means support can be given from as little as two hours a week to 24 hours a day.

The Christmas Fair is run by the East Somerset Friends of hft, founded in 1978. Run by volunteers under the dedicated chairmanship of the Countess de Salis, the Fair was a success from the start. Funds raised by voluntary organisations are important to hft. In 2011 the Fair proceeds of £11,500 were put towards the capital costs involved in acquiring property in Cornwall for young people in transition from children's to adult services.

This year's annual hft Christmas Fair takes place at Wincanton Memorial Hall, 10.00am to 1.30pm.
