Wincanton Churches Together, Anvil Associates and One Planet Wincanton are together promoting two sessions in the Quaker Meeting House on the High Street, to watch and promote discussion of a powerful new video documentary on climate change. It is presented by Sir David Attenborough and Professor Johan Rockstrom in anticipation of the COP26 Conference in Glasgow this November when world leaders will attempt to face up to climate change. The documentary and the book that goes with it is called Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet.

Using films, interviews and diagrams, the video introduces us to the latest findings of a wide range of scientists as they catalogue and explain how biodiversity is collapsing in the face of climate change and global warming.

NOT MORE GLOOM AND DOOM! we hear you cry. NO! They show us that we have the scientific answers and are already developing the technologies that will enable us to move away from dependence on a fossil fuel-based economy, moving instead to the abundant and inexhaustible sources of sustainable energy that are available. They point out ways in which we can reverse many of the terrible effects of collapsing biodiversity in favour of a greener, more fulfilling and equitable world.

Both Attenborough and Rockstrom emphasise that we are living through the most crucial time in all human history and that we all have a part to play in what happens. THIS DECADE is crucial.

The full documentary is available on Netflix (1hr 14mins) and a ten-minute version is available on YouTube (10m 15s), presented by Attenborough.

If you would like to see the full documentary and join a discussion about it we have arranged two chances to get together to view and talk about this important film. The Quakers, who have installed a large TV in their Meeting House (Wincanton High Street), are providing us with an ideal venue to see it together.

The two sessions, Wednesday 15th September at 7pm and Saturday 18th at 2pm, will have planned seating for thirty, sensibly distanced, with the door open and the option of wearing masks. These are open to ANYONE who would like to come but you need to reserve your place.

To do so please email or call him on 01963 34537 indicating Wednesday or Saturday and he will confirm your booking.

There will be a half-time break and time for discussion at the end.
