A New Look for The Nog Inn - Finally!

Despite being an avid Wincanton Window follower, I can't believe it's taken me nearly 7 months to get around to submitting another article to John! Same old excuse though, we're just busy, busy, busy here at The Nog!

A woman's touch, as requiredFollowing a crash into the front of the building back in November whereupon we suffered some impact damage, the decision to redecorate the exterior and upper area of the pub was brought to the forefront of our minds.

Works started in earnest at the beginning of February and I was completely unprepared for the amount of hard graft we would have to put in!

We wanted to give the upper area of the pub a fresh look, bring back some of the period features and ultimately make it a place for people to sit comfortably and enjoy their surroundings with a meal and a glass of wine, or relax with friends. We were daunted by the scale of our project - neither Will or I are particularly gifted at interior design, but we had a good idea of the colours we wanted to use, and the main features we wanted to reinstate, namely a wooden floor and a working fireplace. We were also lucky enough to receive guidance on everything from materials to colours from our builder, Tom Blade of Blade Construction.

Just in case you forget where the pub was after you've had a few...We started by ripping up the old carpet at the top of the pub to discover some original wooden floor boards hidden beneath! This was a real bit of luck as it saved us an enormous amount of time and money in this area. We also took out the old banquet seating, got rid of most of the furniture, stripped the walls, uncovered the old fireplace and started work! It was a long, hard and very messy slog, but ultimately well worth it.

Now when you walk through our doors you are greeted by warm reds, mushroom & gold colours - quite a turn around from the dreary old green and magnolia we used to have! Later this year we're looking forward to being able to use our new fireplace, and already the Chesterfield sofa is a huge hit with our customers.

We finally completed our mini facelift in May by having the lower part of the pub repainted - and what a difference it makes! Now the exterior of the property is starting to reflect what you find inside - it takes 10 seconds to make a first impression, hopefully ours is now a great one!

Trade has increased significantly since the works finished, and in response to this we have now decided to extend our food service hours. We now serve food until 9pm every day of the week except Friday and Saturday, when food is served until 10pm.

Now all that's left is for us to enjoy the fruits of our labour and hope this glorious summer sunshine continues!

We hope to see you soon - old customers, or new, you'll always get a warm welcome at The Nog Inn.
