Horsington author John Vallins has written 'Country Diaries' for the Guardian newspaper for nearly 20 years. Now a selection of his 'diaries' have been published in a new hardback, with a book launch and signing in Castle Cary on Saturday 15th October.

A former convenience store owner and the oldest resident at a Wincanton nursing home is celebrating after reaching her 103rd birthday. Beatrice McWean celebrated the milestone with friends and family at a party last week laid on by staff at the Elroi Manor nursing home on West Hill. A nephew even flew in from Canada to deliver a birthday card in person.
