Spuds 'n' carrots, in a basket, with a trowel.Growing your own fruit and vegetables doesn't need that much space and combines exercise with the satisfaction of putting your own very fresh food on the table.

Start with principles behind crop rotation, move on to the right type of bed to use, know how to sow the seeds and then prick out seedlings. You will also want to know about the common pests and diseases and the best ways to manage these. Feeding your plants can also be tricky and knowing the correct nutrients are useful. So whether you have a herb garden, an orchard or something in between you can find out how to make the most of it.

Join other beginners and tutor Di Roberts on a course starting on Tuesday March 1st from 10.00am - 12.00pm at North Cadbury Village Hall. The cost is £38 (concessions apply) for 5 weeks. Please ring 0845 688 0488  to enrol or speak to Jenny Sparkes in Somerset Skills and Learning Centre at King Arthur's Community School, telephone 01963 33246.
