Rebecca Thurgood - The Live at Home SchemeThe Wincanton Live At Home Scheme is a local charity set up 11 years ago to provide safe social contact for the elderly living in Wincanton and the surrounding 5 mile area, who otherwise were lonely and isolated from the community.

We run day centres (on behalf of Social Services), various lunch clubs, outings, theatre trips, concerts and our annual holiday. All of our activities include transport door to door if needed and we offer a befriending service for those who are housebound and unable to attend the lunches.

Other services we can provide our members with include a Handyman scheme for any little DIY job around the house, and contact with our MP, David Heath, for anyone who is unable to attend his normal surgeries but would like to speak to him.

You must be a member of the scheme to attend activities, but there is no cost attached to membership, for instance anyone attending a pub lunch would just pay the cost of the meal plus £1 for transport where provided by us.

Anyone interested in joining the scheme, either as a member or volunteer (we are always looking for new volunteers, especially befrienders) and anyone who would like to support the scheme in some way, or who has an idea for fundraising should ring me on 01963 33588.
