Beaujolais is back!

The first bottle of 2013 Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived in Wincanton from France in the boot of Stephen's classic 1966 Mini Cooper "Nicole".

Western Gazette journalist Stephen Davy-Osborne and co-driver Bryan Skant report that the 1,500 mile, four-day round trip alongside a team of other classic cars on the journey to Macon, south east France, went really well. "Nicole performed without so much as a splutter", he said.

"We really put her through her pace; we had torrential rain, blinding sunlight and drifting snow, and that was just the southward journey. But she didn't let us down, and we were very pleased to hold the title of the only car that didn't experience some sort of mechanical failure along the way.

"It was a real adventure, made even more interesting by our out-dated French road map, which detailed most of our roads by different numbers which resulted in several u-turns!"

Bryan added that the duo's 'allo 'allo-inspired costume had proven to be a highlight of the trip, which saw a full-scale portrait of the Fallen Madonna with the big boobies by Van Klomp tag along on the journey.

"I am thoroughly sick of the theme tune now though," he laughed. "We blasted it out of the windows at every available opportunity, and most amusingly broadcast it over our CB radio from the back of the ferry queue as one of the other team members passed through passport control at Roscoff. They were less impressed by this."

Jenny holds the bottle in Divine Wines, her shop on Wincanton High Street

The pair have now returned with a single bottle of this year's Beajolais Nouveau to Divine Wines on Wincanton High Street where it can be admired and where you can buy your raffle ticket. It is to be raffled in aid of Wincanton Community Hospital and the draw will be at 11.00am on Saturday, 14th December.
