The Joy of Summer Beautifully Displayed

Friday 25 June 2010, 16:21
By John Baxter

Wincanton Parish Church made a wonderful setting for this celebration of all that is beautiful in the plants and flowers that surround and inspire us with a glimpse of transcendence. Bearing in mind the selection and propagation that lies behind so many plant species they are also a vivid example of how human skill and nature can work together to produce amazing results. Combining these in arresting displays the flower arrangers may not think of themselves as artists, but perhaps they should for their work shows sensitivity, an eye for colour and composition and not a little imagination and creativity.

This Flower Festival is also the result of a great deal of work by the organising committee and their many helpers and of the imagination and co-operative spirit of all those organisations, charities, schools, churches and businesses that have volunteered to produce displays. This makes it a celebration for everyone.

One of the cleverest and most imaginative displays was the work of the pupils at Wincanton Primary School who added their writing.

An outstanding show and a wonderful example of what can be done when a community comes together in such a way. Well worth all the very hard work and a great credit to both the church and the town.

Well done everybody. Its good to be able to see the creative spirit of the people of Wincanton alive and kicking.
We're sorry we couldn't make it, but thank you John for the pictures.
