Golden Wedding Celebration In Wincanton

Friday 1 July 2011, 19:21
By Canon Alan Watson

The Reverend Canon Alan Watson and his wife RosemaryThe Revd. Canon Alan and Mrs. Rosemary Watson celebrate their Golden Wedding with a special service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Marriage on Sunday, 3rd July at 10.30am at the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Wincanton. Anyone who wishes to join us will be made very welcome.

Alan is an Honorary Canon of Canterbury Cathedral, and served as a priest in various parishes in the Canterbury Diocese.

Since retirement in 1999, he now helps out in parishes around Wincanton, and also is one of the chaplains who ministers to visitors in Wells Cathedral. The move to Somerset was in order to be nearer to one of their daughters who also lives in Wincanton. Their other daughter and her family live in New Zealand, but she has flown across to the UK in order to be part of the Golden Celebrations.

A photo from their wedding in 1961The couple were actually married on July 1st 1961 at St. Nicholas Church in Sturry, near Canterbury. They very much want their own special service of thanksgiving to be widened into a general thanksgiving for marriage so that all can feel they can easily join in.

As a thank offering for 50 years of marriage, Alan and Rosemary are making a significant donation to the Christchurch Cathedral Rebuilding Appeal in New Zealand, following its collapse during the earthquake earlier this year.
Please come to the service on Sunday, 3rd July if you would like to.
