Wincanton Social Rounders League Gets Started in the Sun!

In the lovely sunny weather, Wincanton Sports Ground kicked off its first ever social Rounders League. With the summer approaching, five teams, from both Somerset and Dorset area, were keen to enter this mixed social league.
The league kicked off with a battle of the teachers as Gillingham Mixed Bunch took on the KA Knights. Gillingham Mixed Bunch are a team made up of teachers and staff from Gillingham School, while the KA Knights are made up of teachers and staff from King Arthurs schools. We were sure this was going to be a close, competitive match, with both teams having some very strong hitters!
The first innings was extremely close with both teams only having one batter out, however KA Knights edged it with five rounders to three.
The second innings saw great fielding from Gillingham Mixed Bunch who managed to get eight of the nine KA Knights out, but in the end the KA Knights scored eight rounders compared to Gillingham’s five, making the final score 13-8 to KA.
On pitch two, the girls from Birds with Balls took on Gillingham’s Dextra Dragons. Both teams got off to a great start with rounders and half-rounders being scored, and the first innings saw some great fielding from the Birds with Balls, who scored four, with three rounders and two half-rounders, while Dextra Dragons scored 2.5.
With all to play for in the second innings, the Dextra Dragons came out fighting! They scored five rounders, making the final score 7.5 – 4 to the Dextra Dragons.
Other matches on the night saw the KA Knights beat the Birds with Balls 12.5 – 2.5, and the Gillingham Mixed bunch beat Dextra Dragons 19.5 – 6.
The fantastic weather and atmosphere led to the first week being a huge success, with all teams enjoying a game of rounders in the sun! As well as the league, Wincanton Sports Ground also run ladies-only social sessions on a Monday from 11.30am-12.30pm. If you would like more information on these sessions please contact Jade on .
