That generic racehorse image again. On Saturday, February 18th 2012 Wincanton Racecourse will host its seasonal highlight - Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle Raceday - with a noteworthy £122,000 total prize fund.

The infamous contest is considered the final 'prep-race' for many Cheltenham Festival Champion Hurdle contenders prior to the iconic March meeting (13th - 16th), with five former stars having achieved glory.

In 2009, Nicky Henderson's Punjabi finished third in the Kingwell and went on to victory in the Championship, with Alan King's Katchit stealing the 2008 limelight. Those with slightly longer memories will recall the successes of French thoroughbred Hors La Loi III in 2002; the outstanding Alderbrook whose 1995 Kingwell victory was his second start over fences! Also Kribensis in 1990 for racing legends Sir Michael Stoute and Richard Dunwoody.

Raceogers can see top quality for as little as £13 via an advance Grandstand booking offer that includes a race card, a pint of Carling and £2 off a £5 Tote Placepot betting voucher. An £18 Premier ticket deal is also available till Monday, February 12. Book now on 0844 579 3014 or call the office on 01963 32344.

"Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle is Wincanton's racing jewel, steeped in history and traditions. We're very much looking forward to the day and have planned a number of on-course activities to enhance the race day" says Steve Parlett, Wincanton Racecourse's General Manager.

"We would also recommend race-goers allocate plenty of travel time given the popularity of the day, and that the Paddock Panel with Luke Harvey and Channel 4's Mike Cattermole will start at 12.55am."

  • Gates open at 11.30am with the first race at 1.25pm and the last race at 4.50pm.
  • Advance ticket deal available until Monday, February 13th - £18.00 Premier or £13 Grandstand to include admission, race card, a pint of Carling and £2 off a £5 Tote Placepot voucher. Call 0844 579 3014 or book online: www.wincantonracecourse.co.uk.
  • Free entry for under 18s when accompanied by an adult.
