Higos Insurance Somerset National Day on 5th April

Racehorse silhouetteWith the entire card supported by Higos Insurance the day carries the valuable Higos Somerset National Handicap Chase run over three miles, four furlongs. Last year's contest was won by 16-times Champion Jockey, AP McCoy, on board the Tim Vaughan-trained The Ferbane Man. Next month's renewal is sure to attract many speedy contenders bidding for a slice of the £10,000 race prize fund.

For the first time ever, Wincanton has undertaken the British Horseracing Authority's (BHA) newly launched interactive racing planning initiative that provides trainers with an opportunity to influence the make-up of Thursday, April 5 race-card. This will potentially see the current five race-card that features three hurdle, one chase and one bumper contests; tweaked to six competitive races and provide more opportunities for horses that are ready to run but currently have no suitable races.

Bathwick Tyres' Countryside Day on 22nd April

On April 22 Wincanton Racecourse celebrates Countryside Day with an action-packed day of displays and interactive demonstrations that show the different aspects of glorious countryside pursuits, coupled with competitive racing. International three-day eventer, Sam Griffiths, will start at 1.00pm with an equestrian jumping demonstration on the marquee lawn. Race-goers wanting to find out more about race riding can do so on board the Equisier (riding simulator). For younger race-goers, Wincanton's mascot Winnie the Horse will be out and about for the entire meeting handing out free Wincanton sticker bugs. There is also complimentary face-painting and a bouncy castle.

There will be trade stands, a Blackmore and Sparkford Vale hound parade alongside bassetts and beagles displays, ferret and terrier racing, a tractor village and much more.

Continuing on the themed events, on Thursday May 10 Wincanton Racecourse hosts their Evening Meeting and Live Music with the infamous Mangledwurzels playing post racing. Popular Ladies Day falls on Tuesday, May 15. Tickets with advance package are available on 0844 5793014.
