Community Speedwatch

The aim of Community Speedwatch is to make motorists who speed through residential neighbourhoods aware of the impact their actions have on local residents, or the danger they pose to other road users and pedestrians.

Roads in and around Wincanton are getting busier, and people are driving faster. Previous Speedwatches have recorded vehicles regularly exceeding the 30mph at the locations being monitored in Town, and speeds of up to 50mph have been witnessed.

As the summer holidays come to an end and the school term restarts, the safety of people on the roads and pavements around Wincanton is paramount. Wincanton Speedwatch is a visible deterrent for speeders and assists with making the community safer.

If you are able to volunteer, your help within the community would be greatly appreciated. Training involves an online course (max. 30mins), an application through Avon and Somerset Police and roadside training (1hr). You can then volunteer as much or as little time as you can spare. The intention is to set up at least one speedwatch a week in Wincanton for the sites at Bayford Hill and West Hill.
