Tony Goddard will be giving a presentation for the Wincanton Museum and History Society on Thursday 29th May in the Memorial Hall, entitled Wincanton at War – August to December 1914.

Tony is not only chairman of our local branch of the British Legion but he has also devoted himself to visiting the battlefields of the First and Second World Wars. He has researched and written about those local men and women who have fought and died in them.

"It will all be over by Christmas" is the phrase it seems many used as they enthusiastically volunteered in 1914, with no idea of the protracted horror that was to come.

Tony says, "I will focus on our first causalities of the Great War and on the town during the first months of the war. My presentation will be supported by archive photos and battlefield artefacts."

This sounds like a very special talk, not to be missed. We are meeting on Thursday 29th May in the Memorial Hall, at 7.30pm. Tickets at the door, £2.00 for members, £5.00 for visitors and there will be refreshments.
