When in Rome...

Our trip to Rome last summer was a great success and our students certainly made the most of their trip providing them with something they will never forget as the articles they have written show. Both are by current year 11 students and describe their experiences.

What About Barcelona in 2011? An Opportunity for Adults and Parents.

Building on this success next year the school's Art department is planning a similar visit to Barcelona. Any adults or parents interested in accompanying the group please contact Mr. M. Tinsley via the school reception. It should be a great trip as this one was.

The Colosseum

Stepping out of the air-conditioned Easy Jet plane and setting foot in the city of Rome, a big wall of heat hits you! We moan about the European heat as we get in our coach, but we know that it is all part of the experience. Wherever we went, being unobservant wasn't an option as we gazed around the sights.

Plato and Aristotle

ArtistOur days were extremely action packed but the culture of Rome and the typical Italian atmosphere made it definitely worth it. The trip included tours of the artistic masterpieces and unique buildings of the Vatican, amazing sights such as the Coliseum and the Spanish Steps, and the pleasures of simply shopping or chilling out in the surreal parks.

Going to Rome was an amazing experience that will stay with me for a very long time. Jokes and events shared with friends on this trip will be nostalgic memories in the future, and rest assured, after throwing coins into the Trevi Fountain, there will definitely be people returning!

In the evenings when we ate out it was in a typical Italian Restaurant which gave us the perfect chance to relax after a fun-filled sight-seeing day around Rome. We had a variety of traditional Italian foods—pizza, pasta and lasagne etc. Although feeling as if we were going to pop after every meal, it was definitely worth the experience. Eating together was a laugh, even after an exhausting day, everyone still had smiles on their faces.

Al fresco

After eating we experienced Italian nightlife. We walked to a local square, Piazza Navona, where there were buskers, dancers and many artists. It was very relaxing sitting with our feet in the fountain after the scorching heat of the day. When making our way back to the hotel each night, we passed a melon stall where some of the girls stopped to taste. The sweet fruit was a refreshing change to the rich Italian food.

A night out

The hotel was a modern place perfect for us to stay and close enough to the sights we travelled to see. Before bed we got a couple of hours to ourselves doing what we liked. Our room had a big balcony, which overlooked the beautiful ancient city of Rome where we chilled out each evening together.

Cool cafe

Taking a plungeOn the last day, after a busy and fantastic few days touring Rome, we went to Villa Palazzola and had the opportunity to have a couple of hours in the refreshing outdoor spring-fed pool overlooking Lake Albano. We played volleyball and sun-bathed. It was perfect to round off an amazing trip!
