Getting Olympic Fever? Three Towns Torch Run

Disappointed to miss out on the official Olympic Torch procession in their area, local schools, backed by businesses, sport centres, the town councils and the Police are holding their own special torch procession around Castle Cary, Bruton and Wincanton.

This is happening on Friday 15 June 2012 starting at 9.45am. One adult marathon runner and 10 pupils from each school – Castle Cary Primary School, Ansford Academy, Bruton School for Girls, Bruton Primary School, Sexey's School, King Arthur's School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School and Wincanton Primary School – will each run a leg of the torch relay.

The event will culminate in refreshments and a final photocall at the Maddocks Pavilion on the Wincanton Sports Ground at 3.15pm. The event is designed to inspire local children about the Olympic Games through their own locally run event.

The itinerary for the day

0945: Start point at Castle Cary Primary School. Ten Castle Cary Primary runners and the accompanying convoy will run through the town one-way system to the Ansford Academy, where the torch will be handed over to the Senior School.

10:15: Set off from Ansford Academy. Ten Ansford Academy runners will relay the torch to Bruton School for Girls. Each leg will be approximately 400m. ETA 11:15

11:30: Set off from Bruton School for Girls. Run to Bruton Primary School. All ten girls running together. ETA 12:00

12:15: Set off from Bruton Primary School. Run to Sexey's School, Bruton. All ten Bruton School for Girls runners plus ten Bruton Primary School pupils running together.

12:30: Set off from Sexey's School. Run to changeover point at Cuttlesham Farm on Verrington Lane, half way to Wincanton. One student will be running and nine will be in the minibus relaying to Cuttlesham Farm. ETA 13:30.

13:45: Set off from Cuttlesham Farm. Run to King Arthur's School, Wincanton. King Arthur's. Again there will be one runner and nine in the minibus in relay, finishing at King Arthur's main entrance. ETA 14:40.

14:45: Set off from King Arthur's School. Run to Wincanton Sports Ground via Town Centre. At this point the King Arthur's leg has finished the same runners may run with the twenty primary children through the town, stopping briefly at Market Place, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Wincanton Primary for photographs. All runners will then proceed en masse to the Maddocks Pavilion at Wincanton Sports Ground for refreshments and a final photo call. ETA town centre 15:00, and ETA Wincanton Sports Ground 15:15.
