Police Investigate Theft of Wrought Iron Gates From Church

Tuesday 28 February 2012, 13:59
By Mandy Forsey

Overnight on Tuesday 21st February to Wednesday 22nd February 2012 a pair of large wrought iron gates measuring 6ft wide by 5.6ft high, were stolen from All Saints Church, Castle Cary. These gates are very heavy and were taken from the Northside entrance of the churchyard which is situated next to the path on the main road. Due to the weight of the gates it would have taken at least two people with a vehicle.

This type of theft, especially from a church, is totally unacceptable and callous. The vicar of the church and the children and staff at the school have been very upset by this. The gates have been there a long time and they were in commemoration for a family member. The family are devastated by this theft. We are appealing for anyone locally who may have seen or heard these people to come forward.

If you have any information in regard to these crimes or others, we ask you to get in contact with us on the new non emergency number 101, or you can contact Crimestoppers on the number below. This behaviour will not be tolerated and we are hoping for the assistance of the local community. We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious at this time.

If you have any information please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.They never ask your name and never trace your call.
