South Street, Wincanton, to Close for Six Days

Work on the A303 carriage re-surfacing is moving ahead smoothly and efficiently, with traffic diverted through the High Street between 8.00pm and 6.00am. So far inconvenience to High Street residents has been minimal. This work is scheduled to be completed by 21st October.

However, starting 27th October, South Street will be closed from the Market Place junction for six days, to allow essential drainage work to be completed. The work is scheduled to be completed by end of day Friday 31st October. The section of road affected starts on the bend by Robert Frith Opticians for a distance of 35 metres opposite Redfearns Restaurant.

Full closure of this small section of South Street will have a more dramatic effect on our High Street, requiring a full diversion for all east/westbound motorists using High Street, Common Road, and Moor Lane, re-joining Southgate Road with subsequent access to the A303. Hopefully the road works and closure won’t cause too much inconvenience to High Street businesses or residents.

Despite the road works, and especially the six day closure it’s important to note that Wincanton town centre is fully open for business. All car parks will be open as usual.
