Wincanton Police Station

Avon and Somerset Constabulary is appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in Castle Cary. The 37-year-old victim was attacked by a man outside Cary Kababs on Fore Street having recently left the White Hart pub. The woman sustained serious facial injuries in the incident which happened at around 1:40am on Sunday, 8th April.

This appears to have been a vicious unprovoked attack on a vulnerable member of the public. I appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard what happened. We will not tolerate violence of this nature.

 - Detective Inspector Martyn Cannon

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5218074155.
