New Low Cost Counselling Service at the Balsam Centre

Wednesday 14 September 2011, 10:08
By Mandy Hedges

Mandy Hedges, qualified councellor at the Balsam CentreIn 2010 the Balsam Centre set up a counselling practice. Free counselling was offered by a trainee counsellor as well as an experienced counsellor and mental health worker. The service was very successful, helping a number of people.

Sadly, due to funding issues and staff leaving the service ended. This was a a serious loss for people in Wincanton and the surrounding area.

I was one of those trainee counsellors, and I am now fully qualified in both Therapeutic Counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I am also a full member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) have now been given the go-ahead by the Board and Sue Place the Manager of the Balsam Centre to start up and run a NEW LOW COST counselling service, within the Centre. This however is my Practice and the centre takes no responsibility for the service, other than to support me and the centre’s users. I am fully insured, CRB checked, and work to the BACP ethical framework.

I will be given free assessments and fees will be negotiated according to personal circumstance and will start at £10 per session, however I do not want to turn anyone away who really needs help, so it may be possible for fees to be lower and I will have a limited number of free slots. Please ask.

I will initially offer six sessions before reviewing. Sessions are 50 minutes long and weekly, day or evening appointments are available. Counselling is a confidential service and only in very extreme circumstances will that confidentiality be broken.

For more information or to book please telephone me on 01747 858240 or07521 725117.
