The new Wincanton Health Centre logo, as compared to the original concept drawingEarlier this year, Janet Loe, Practice Manager of Wincanton Health Centre, approached King Arthur's Head of Art & Design, Mr. Mark Tinsley with a proposal to involve KA students in designing the logo for the new Wincanton Health Centre.

All of the Year 7, 8 and 9 students worked with great enthusiasm. It was very encouraging for the students to know that there was a £50 Amazon voucher for the winning design!

Students tried very hard and created many good designs and after a careful and thoughtful selection in the Art department we shortlisted and submitted around 50 entries.

A committee of Doctor's, designers and Health Centre staff chose the winning design, but it was a difficult choice to make between some of the best entrants. However, one design stood out above all the others!

The winning design selected was by Year 9 student Martin Ashford. The simple design of a family was felt to embrace the purpose and meaning of the Wincanton Health Centre. As explained by Mrs. Loe, the Practice Manager "We care about our community, about whole families".

Graphic designers incorporated the initials of WHC into Martin's successful logo design.

There were six other designs which were also very good and the committee decided to award runners-up prizes of £10 Amazon vouchers to Lily Carswell, Corinne Foot, Oliver Fuller, Charlotte Fudge, Aisha Hamblin and Abi Butt.

On 7th December Mrs. Loe together with Mr. Len Grant and Mr. John Bradley from the Patients Participation Group of the Health Centre came to King Arthur's school to congratulate and present the prizes.

During the presentation all students from Years 8 and 9 were shown Martin's winning logo design which will be used on the outside of the new health centre building, etched into the glass doors, around the communal areas inside and on letter headings. The new health centre opened its doors on 12th December.

King Arthur's is very grateful to the Health Centre for involving them in something for the community and proud of the students.
