Easter Bonnets on Parade at Wincanton Primary

Girl with an Easter BonnetFour classes of Key Stage 1 pupils all wearing their imaginatively decorated hats were able to put on a wonderful show for their parents before breaking up for the Easter Holidays. It was explained to me by Mrs Julie Nye that they follow a two year cycle, one year focusing on the story of Jesus coming to Jerusalem and the next to explore Easter as a celebration of the coming of new life, new beginnings and the first stirrings of Spring. This year this is what we had with hat decorations and songs which spoke of Easter Eggs, baby chicks, bunnies and chocolate. Two classes had composed poems for the occasion and these were declaimed by different children a line at a time. They all performed with admirable self-confidence and the singing which all took part in was - as the mothers said - lovely.
