Criminal Damage Spoils Children's Play at Wincanton Recreation Ground

By Mandy Forsey

Between Friday 27th January and Monday 30th January 2012 a wooden bench and the children's climbing frame have been damaged in the cricket field location at Pines Close, Wincanton. The wooden bench has been totally broken and cannot be mended but luckily staff have managed to mend the climbing frame.

PCSO Mandy Forsey says "This type of needless damage is upsetting for the children that use this play area. In these times when there are so many budget cuts this type of mindless damage just adds to the tight budget the council are already trying to manage. It is hard to maintain what the community request when money has to be spent on repairing damage that is caused by others. This has a knock on effect to the whole community, by either not being able to use broken equipment or by having other things reduced as the money to repair this damage has to come from a budget elsewhere.

"We are appealing for anyone locally who may have seen or heard anything out of the ordinary to come forward. If you have any information in regard to these crimes or others, we ask you to get in contact with us on the new 101 number or you can contact Crimestoppers on the number below. This behaviour will not be tolerated and we are hoping for the assistance of the locals. We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious at this time."

If you have any information please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name and never trace your call.
