Bourton & Zeals Pre-School - All Friends Together

By Vicky Moore

At Bourton and Zeals Pre-School our main objective is to provide a happy, fun-filled time for our children aged 2 years and up through creative learning and play.

Inside Bourton and Zeals Pre-School

In our own purpose-built building in the grounds of St. George's School, Bourton, we always put our children first.

As a registered charity, run by an elected committee, all the profits are put back into facilities for the children, such as each child having a set of waterproof trousers and coat at the pre-school should they want to play outside, whatever the weather. We feel it's the little things that make a good pre-school a great pre-school.

Our safe, enclosed, outside play area allows children the freedom for supervised play where they wish, whilst our close relationship with St. George's allows us the use of the playing fields and hall for activities that need more room, not to mention the use of the swimming pool in the summer!

It is always in our minds that one of our roles is to ultimately ready our children for their big leap to primary school. With close links not only to St. George's but also with Zeals and Whitesheet Primary Schools (Kilmington), amongst others, we are very well positioned to ensure their transition is as smooth as possible.

This is cemented by our 'ready for school' programme which begins in the latter part of the spring term for those going up in September. We ensure our up and coming graduates are used to getting ready for PE lessons, sit nicely for story time and learn to begin to function independently, amongst other things.

But it's not all about the older children. The committee also oversees the Tummies, Tiddlers and Toddlers group which meets on Tuesdays, 9.30am - 11.00am during term-time. We see the group as Dorset, Somerset & Wiltshire's friendly expectant parent, baby & toddler group. If you are expecting a baby, have a baby or toddler come along to meet and get real advice from like-minded parents/carers.

Children's artworkSessions include a play session for babies and toddlers with a craft table, refreshments and time to chat for expectant mums, with monthly sessions on aspects of pregnancy and childcare from professionals.
