A bit about me... pre-babies!

Hi, I’m Emma. I have been working with early years and families for 15 years and have an Early Years degree as well as a diploma in Postnatal Depression. Since leaving university, I have been lucky enough to have had a range of jobs including; a nursery nurse; community play leader; after school and playscheme leader; carer and nanny. Throughout my career I have worked very closely with families which I really love; getting to know so many wonderful parents and carers and being part of such a special time in their lives is very humbling and rewarding.

My life post-babies

After having my firstborn four years ago, I drastically reduced my working hours to spend as much time as I possibly could with him. Since then, I have had my second little boy who is now 7 months old. I have loved spending time with both of them and have created some very special memories but, as I am sure most of you would agree, it is hard work!

During my first maternity leave I loved going to baby classes; my little boy would always be so much calmer out of the house and around other people. I found that he was always more willing to try new things at baby classes; tummy time especially, which he hated in the house! It also gave me some respite; spending all day every day with a baby is exhausting, especially when you’ve seen every hour through the night.

Sitting down with other parents in the same situation and feeling able to share experiences and concerns with others in similar circumstances was so reassuring. We now have some wonderful, life-long friends from attending baby classes, which I am so grateful for. I was very much looking forward to attending baby classes with my second and feel a real sense of loss over this due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By this time with my first, I already had an amazing circle of friends with babies the same age.

Bloom

I chose to start up Bloom because it is built on the key principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and has a strong focus on postnatal wellbeing; both of which I am passionate about. The classes are specifically designed to aid baby’s natural development, whilst strengthening the bond between parent/carer and baby. We explore a new theme every week giving plenty of photo opportunities and a chance to create special memories together.

At Bloom we split our classes into small age ranges; our Caterpillar Club for babies up to 6 months is a gentle introduction to our musical sensory class and ends with a calming baby massage, leaving baby ready for a nice long nap! Our Busy Bees Class for babies 6 - 15 months is an interactive, musical and sensory development class with exciting props, parachutes, signing, treasure baskets, instruments and activities encouraging early language acquisition and motor control.

Where and when?

I am so excited to announce Bloom will be running from September on a Tuesday morning at Just Dance Studios, on Church Steet, Wincanton! I have made a few changes to the classes including personal sensory kits, individual socially distanced mats and PPE in every class. Emma Conwin, owner of Just Dance Studios, has also been working tirelessly to ensure the Studios are COVID-secure. The classes may look a little different to originally planned but we will still have a Blooming good time!

Where can I find out more?

I am really excited to have started this journey and I hope you can join me on my adventure! For more information you can follow Bloom South Somerset and Sherborne on Facebook and Instagram, visit bloombabyclasses.com or you can book now at bookwhen.com.
