Fun for Kids at Wincanton Library
Anyone who took part in the Big Friendly Read, or attended the craft and story day in August already knows what fun libraries can be. Wincanton Library Friends intend to host creative events for children during all half term breaks and other school holidays.

The 2016 Wincanton Carnival is less than a week away, and everything is gradually falling into place. For the safety of both the spectators and carnival entrants the Carnival committee has announced some typical road closures. Wincanton & District Gardeners Association held its 61st Annual Flower Show on Saturday 3rd September in the Memorial Hall. There was a high standard of entries and keen competition across all classes, including flowers and vegetabes as well as home and handicrafts.

Prof. Will Vaughan will give a talk about the oldest known map of Castle Cary and Ansford, on Saturday 3rd September at 6.30pm in Caryford Hall. This unique map dates from 1682-4 and is nearly 4ft x 4ft. You could order your own print!
Opening Ceremony for New Cale Park Play Area and Footbridge on 25th August
The new Cale Park play area has been open to the public since the beginning of the month, but the official opening ceremony for both the park and the new footbridge will be on Thursday 25th August, to coincide with the second of two Play Days organised by South Somerset District Council this summer.

Bruton Art Society’s 62nd Annual Exhibition opens at Bruton School for Girls on Saturday 13th August for two weeks. This is an excellent setting for an exhibition of over 250 paintings and sculptures produced by local artists.
Poker Evening to Continue Fundraising Effort for Wincanton Carnival 2016
The carnival committee has been working hard to raise the estimated £8,000 needed to run this year’s event. With around £5,500 already raised, a poker evening follows last night's bingo to help raise the balance needed.
