One Somerset: a public Zoom meeting with Wincanton Town Council

Monday 6 July 2020, 15:55
By Dave Smith

There is debate amongst Somerset's five local authorities about the future of local government in the county, and how best to reduce waste and inefficiency. One option that has been employed elsewhere in the country is the Unitary Authority, whereby all of Somerset's district councils and the Somerset County Council itself would be disbanded, and a single, all-new council elected in their place.

Councillor David Fothergill, Leader of Somerset County Council, will be attending a Zoom meeting with Wincanton Town Council and members of the public on Tuesday 7th July 2020 at 6pm.

Councillor Fothergill will be talking about the business case for a single unitary authority for Somerset, the governance timelines and the Scrutiny and Cabinet meetings. Should the business case be supported it will then be submitted to Government at an appropriate time. The business case proposals are on the website onesomerset.org.uk, which is regularly updated.

Should you wish to attend the meeting via Zoom, please contact the Town Hall on 01963 31693 for login details.
