Wincanton Floristry student Jeni GalliganWincanton Floristry student Jeni Galligan was spoilt rotten when she picked up her City & Guilds medal at a lavish event in London's Roundhouse Friday 27th May.

Jeni had been chosen out of thousands of learners to receive the much sought after accolade after attending a City & Guild Floristry course run by Somerset Skills & Learning in Wincanton.

City & Guilds organised a red carpet entrance with a photographer for all the medal winners. The evening continued with acrobats hanging from the roof during a champagne drinks reception, an amazing three course dinner and a live band and disco entertainment until 1.00am. All the winners were asked to walk down a staircase onto the main stage to the applause of everyone attending the event.

Jeni told us, "They really made a fuss of the medal winners and it was a lovely night. I sat next to one of the judges and our table had two other medal winners with great stories to tell."

The event was hosted by George Lamb, the son of Eastenders actor Larry Lamb who played Archie Mitchell. George has his own radio show on Radio 6 and he presents Big Brother's Little Brother on TV.

Since winning the award, Jeni has continued to focus on her floristry work, including publishing a specialist book on floristry wire constructions.

Somerset Skills & Learning are running floristry classes in Wincanton and several other venues across Somerset. Look out for the new brochure, available from Monday 4th July or visit www.learnsomerset.co.uk for more details.
