Wincanton History Walk

Tuesday 5 August 2014, 20:05
By Annette Yoosefinejad

The Balsam Centre runs short health walks around Wincanton every Tuesday at 10.00am. Walking around Wincanton, we have often stopped to look at something unusual and wondered what it had once been. Having missed previous History Walks in Wincanton I thought it would be a good idea to combine our health walk with a history walk.

Who would have guessed that we had our own roller-skating rink with music powered by a steam engine? Which battle was fought here? And which Queen stayed here for the night?

Frank Foster will be guiding us around the town and retelling the stories and history of the buildings that we walk past daily.

The walk is open to all who would like to join us. It should last about an hour, starting and finishing at the Balsam Centre, where you can stop for a cup of tea afterwards or even stay for lunch, as the Loose Ends Café will be running that day (£4.50 for a two course meal, or £3.00 if you’re over 60).
