Each year Wincanton Swimming Club competes in the Jurassic League Gala series held against local swimming clubs in the area. Those clubs include The Bridport Barracudas, The Blandford Flyers, Heron Swim Team, Ilminster Swimming Club and the Durrington Otters.

The series comprises four galas, held throughout the summer months, providing a good level of competitive swimming for 10 to 16 year olds as well as events for open swimmers at 18 years plus. Events include each of the individual styles of backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle, together with relay events in freestyle and individual medley (a length of each style).

This, the third gala in the series, was hosted by Ilminster Swimming Club at the Bridport Leisure Center and saw Wincanton compete valiantly in a strong field, coming fourth overall with some notable swims by our members. The concluding gala, next month, is accompanied with a BBQ for all where the overall points are announced and cup presentations made for the first, second and third placed teams.

Wincanton Swimming Club has been running at Wincanton Sports Centre since it opened in 2001 and is a friendly and welcoming club with a well-supported volunteer coaching staff catering for swimmers who wish to reach a good technical standard for competitive level swimming. If you can swim and wish to join the club please visit our website for further details.
