Residents gather to voice concern over revised Windmill Hill development plan [UPDATED]
Residents of Bayford and Penn View are opposing new plans to develop farmland off Bayford Hill. They voiced their concerns at a meeting in Bayford on Friday 6th May. Public consultation closes on 15th May and South Somerset planners are expected to consider the application in July.
BBC Somerset radio broadcast from Cale Park last Sunday
Last Sunday, 30th April, the BBC Somerset radio programme Clueless with Richard Lewis featured Cale Park, broadcast in part from the old bridge near the car park. Wincanton Town Clerk and members of C.A.T.C.H. were interviewed about the new play park and the work the team does to help the river.
£170 million plan to dual A303 from Sparkford to Ilchester
There could be an end in sight to the notorious congestion at the Sparkford roundabout on the A303 if Highways England plans for a new dual carriageway from Sparkford to Ilchester get the go-ahead.
Bayford's new Village Hall opens Saturday 10th
The opening of the newly named Bayford Village Hall will take place on Saturday 10th December. Since the purchase of the hall in April 2016 it has been repaired and converted into a safe and accessible community facility, at a total cost of £96,000.

Heritage Open Day Saturday 10th September in Parish Church
It's part of a nationwide event to promote heritage sites and buildings. Wincanton has many interesting stories and historical events to choose from. This year we are linking our first Open Day to the new town Heritage Trail, launched late December, 2015.

Opening Ceremony for New Cale Park Play Area and Footbridge on 25th August
The new Cale Park play area has been open to the public since the beginning of the month, but the official opening ceremony for both the park and the new footbridge will be on Thursday 25th August, to coincide with the second of two Play Days organised by South Somerset District Council this summer.

The Friends of Cale Park are delighted to have received two donations from local businesses to help towards the final costs for the Play Area project at Cale Park.

Community Raises Funds for Major Bayford Chapel Renovation
Residents of Bayford have formed a charity to purchase and renovate Bayford Chapel to ensure that the building continues as an important focal point in the village. Fundraising is underway to raise £32,000 from local donations.
Development of Waypoints Dementia Care Home Delayed Again
After poor weather conditions hindered building of a new dementia care home in Wincanton earlier this year, a lack of available contractors is quoted as the reason for delaying further work until 2017.
Major Roadworks on A371 in July – Diversions Planned
Between 4th July and 15th July road users in Wincanton, Bruton, and Castle Cary will yet again be subject to a major road closure to allow resurfacing of a section of the A371 road between Bratton Seymour and Cary Hill.
Wincanton Areas Visited by Neighbourhood Plan Group
On Friday 12th February a group of participants in the development of Wincanton's Neighbourhood Plan visited a number of areas around the town. The process, called a Placecheck, is a facilitated series of short visits to areas of land which could be used for housing and/or employment in future.
Cale Park Play Area is Closing for Refurbishment!
At long last work is about to begin to upgrade the Cale Park play area. Starting with the brand new footbridge and finishing with a full set of all-new play equipment, the exciting work requires the play park and associated car park be temporarily closed to the public.

Weather Delays Construction of Waypoints Dementia Care Home
Development of a new 69 bed dementia care home in Wincanton has been mothballed until further notice, with construction work grinding to a halt owing to wet weather. It’s likely work will recommence in late spring, when the weather improves.
Snape Cottage Garden in Bourton to Close
One of Dorset's best-loved gardens, Snape Cottage in Bourton, is to close after 26 years of opening in aid of the National Gardens Scheme. Owners Angela and Ian Whinfield plan to create a more manageable garden in a smaller property.
