Cale Park Bridge Naming Competition!

This is the kind of footbridge that will be installed in Cale Park in May

With funding now in place for phase one of Wincanton Town's Cale Park regeneration project, work is now well under way to start putting all the planning into action.

Phase one of the project is to build an impressive new play area, located in the same position as the current one. Integral to the new play area is access; a new footbridge, which will be located near to the existing shelter, is already on order. The photo above illustrates the kind of bridge that will be installed mid-May.

The Cale Park Working Group is keen to involve the local community in the project as much as possible, so with this in mind, they have launched a competition to nominate suggestions for the name of the new bridge.

Members of the community are invited to submit their nominations via Sam Atherton in Wincanton Community Office (below the Town Hall) either in person, by email to or by phone on 01963 31693. An explanation behind each nomination is recommended. With all entries, your name, address and contact details are required along with your nomination.

The group is hoping for lots of inspiring ideas that capture the whole essence of a new community facility for all.

The closing date for nominations will be 29th April 2016. The Working Group will then publish a shortlist of those nominations they deem to be the most appropriate and inspiring. The community will then be given the opportunity to choose the winner.

The person who provides the winning entry will be invited to join in with the official opening of the bridge, and will of course have the honour of knowing that it was their nomination that will become part of the town's heritage.

Great work by Wincanton Town Council on behalf of us all and especially children living at the bottom end of town.
