Mini Tennis Teams Have Fun at Wincanton Tennis Club

Junior Tennis is on the up at Wincanton Tennis Club these days, and on Sunday 9th October 2011, a new type of 'Junior Pairs Tournament' took place, organised through the (SSTDG) South Somerset Tennis Development Group & the (LTA) Lawn Tennis Association.

The winners, Hugo and Oscar, are pictured below with runners up Alfie and Lawson.

Peter Lewis (South Somerset Tournament Co Ordinator) & Jon Rolnik (Head Coach at Wincanton Tennis Club), including the Club Chairman Rik Elvidge & several club volunteers, put on a successful afternoon of 'Mini Red Pairs Tennis'. Very big thanks go to Event Organiser Peter Lewis, many thanks to our clubs tennis assistants and members of the WTC Committee.

The idea of 'Pairs Team Tennis' is to create a team format for the younger players, adding to the enjoyment of playing tournaments around the local area.

The events piloted in South Somerset this autumn of 2011 included Ilminster TC & Wincanton TC. These festivals are designed at giving Red and Orange players an opportunity to experience local team competition at an appropriate standard.

The South Somerset Tennis Development Group and Somerset LTA will be looking to add more of these 'Pairs Tournaments' to the local calendar in the coming months.
