Aurin Girls Choir, from Hungary

Tickets are now on sale for what promises to be a stunning evening of choral singing on 21st June. The concert at St Mary’s Church, Bruton at 7.30pm is part of the Aurin Girls’ 2016 concert tour.

The Aurin Girls’ Choir, from the Kodály Music School, Hungary has won numerous first prizes in international competitions, two gold medals in the World Choir Games in China and a first prize at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

They have an enviable musical training under the direction of their conductor, László Durányik. The aim of the choir is to present good practice in the art of singing, by representing Kodály’s home town, Kecskemét in a fitting way all over the world and to spread Hungarian culture at its best.

The dedication of these students is remarkable; their rehearsal schedule is uncompromising and intensive, the students at the school participating in daily music lessons as well as many other activities.

The choir’s conductor, László Durányik, studied at the famous Liszt Academy in Budapest, and has ambitious plans for the choir. They have a large repertoire of sacred and secular music, with a special focus on works by contemporary Hungarian composers. This year’s tour will also see concerts in Yorkshire, Peterborough, Wellingborough and Berkhamsted.

This will be a highly colourful Concert: Sacred and Secular music, Hungarian folk arrangements, spirituals and light pieces. It is hoped that it will be a sell-out so please get your tickets now! (from Bruton Pharmacy, Church Bridge Stores or tel. 01749 812281 or 813161.)
