Wincanton's Market Place

If you are in Wincanton, and have a great idea for an initiative which would help attract people to the town centre, your business or community organisation may be able to apply for a new grant which could help bring your idea to life.

As part of the Wincanton Town Centre Regeneration programme, South Somerset District Council is now taking applications from those wishing to organise an event or activity in Wincanton town centre or those who have an innovative and creative idea which will help to bring people into town.

You can apply for one of two grants for up to 50% towards the project costs:

  • £5,000 maximum for 1-3 year project (individual application).
  • £10,000 maximum for a 1-3 year project (partnership application) for collaborative initiatives where one organisation is the applying body, co-ordinating on behalf of at least three partner groups/businesses.

“As a board, we are excited to see some of the ideas for events or activities that people think they could run in order to help boost the footfall in Wincanton town centre. This grant programme should give encouragement to those seeking to apply and remind everyone that we are here as a District Council, encouraging people to support High Street businesses and enable events to take place.”

 - Councillor Henry Hobhouse, portfolio holder for the Wincanton Town Centre Regeneration programme

The Wincanton Town Centre Regeneration Board agreed earlier in the year to fund a programme of events and activities which includes the delivery of grants to enable any events to continue beyond the term of the regeneration programme. This idea was developed following engagement at a Town Council event earlier in the year and the main focus of the grant is to support sustainable events which have the potential to be viable in the longer term, helping boost town centre footfall and encourage people to visit the town centre and support local businesses now and in the future.

Am I eligible for support?

You are eligible to apply for a grant if your business or community organisation wishes to organise an event in Wincanton town centre (once off, regular or annual), your activities are promoting Wincanton town centre or if your event is innovative and creative which has the potential to be viable in the longer term.

How do I apply for a grant?

We’ve uploaded an application form to our website at www.southsomerset.gov.uk/wincantonregeneration where you can download a copy, complete it and send it back to the address on form.

How is my application assessed?

The Wincanton Town Centre Regeneration Board will be asked to consider any applications and the assessment of any application will be weighed against the deliverability, innovation, sustainability and value for money.

Where can I find out more information?
