Somerset Sight is a standalone charity that was first established in 1919, so we celebrate our Centenary next year!

We started in 1919 to help the veterans returning from the trenches at the end of WW1 as many of them were suffering sight loss due to being injured or gassed during that conflict, and since then we have gone from strength to strength.

We currently have a small nucleus of volunteers and service users in and around Wincanton, the latter by far outweighing the former. I am looking to expand this within the local area.

Speaking recently to one of our volunteers in Wincanton, she told me how much both she and her lady look forward to seeing each other and often go out for coffee or to visit a garden centre. She said they regularly “laugh our way around Somerset”.

Full training is given and all reasonable expenses will be paid.

If you would like to become a volunteer and help to make a difference to someone’s life by giving them a couple of hours a month of your time please contact Avril Michele at Somerset Sight on 01823 366143 or 07487815627 01823 333818 or .
