Sewing Classes at the Balsam Centre
Several members of the Job Done Project have asked for a sewing class to start at the Balsam Centre. Job Done is a project to help people to find work, to build their confidence if they have been out of work for a while or looking to return to work after children.
The project has run several groups and classes for people to expand their knowledge and skills - for example, Hanna and Tilly enjoyed the cooking classes so much that they now volunteer to cook for the cafe, making the meat and dessert courses (and recently joined by Cath who prepares the vegetarian option).
So a sewing class will be another excellent opportunity to develop skills. The class will be run by Pip, who was made redundant a few months ago. She has been coming to the cafe with friends, one of whom told me about Pip's knowledge of sewing, and I persuaded her to run the class.
The class is open to anyone, not just those who are part of the project, but we have limited it to five places - three are taken so be quick if you want to join! You need to bring with you something you want to sew. It could be that you want to line curtains or add blackout to an existing pair, or perhaps you want to make new cushion covers. Or maybe you want to learn how to turn up trousers and dresses properly.
Whatever it is, bring it along and Pip will guide you. We have sewing machines.
The class will run for five weeks, starting Wednesday 3rd July, 1.00pm – 3.00pm, in the Veronica Room at the Balsam Centre, and costs £2.00 a week.
To book your place, please call 01963 31842.
If there are any other classes you would like to see run at the Centre, email me with your suggestions, .
