Pooches – Enrol your humans in poop-scoop school!

A bag of dog poo, hung on a public footpath signpost. Marvelous.

Walking around Wincanton on any given day you'll see a good number of dogs walking their humans. You'll also see many nice views. Wincanton is an attractive town. Having a human is still very popular. It's actually interesting to see what kind each pooch is walking, and trying to fathom why they chose that particular breed.

With the growth in pet owners came the growth in the number of special bins throughout the Wincanton area; a simple but essential receptacle to minimise the times when we step in something and scream "#?$!"

However, it seems that whilst the majority comply with the rules and regulations there is always that annoying minority who, for whatever reason, believe that it is their inalienable right to be a pain in the paws to everyone else.

Another bag of crap left at the foot of a public footpath gate.

We appeal to those indisciplined pooches to get their humans enrolled in the nearest owner-training school to remedy this problem. It's a serious matter to be in control of a human. They need to be treated with gentleness, but with a firm hand. They need to be trained to look after the environment and not leave toxic waste unprotected on the local footpaths.

For those who take their humans on a circular walk it's understandable if they clean up after themselves and leave the poop bag secured to a post or bush, to be collected on the way home to the kennel. That's fine. But it isn't fine when their humans deliberately forget to collect that toxic waste on the homeward journey.

Dog poop should be disposed of safely in the nearest dog bin or in the bin when you get home. Please keep the local footpaths clean and safe for everyone. It's not a lot to ask.

Hay - The Animal of Wincanton here. This is my first post! - first of many as I intend to be a known figure here... I intend to do allot for charity here.

Anyway, reading this put a big smile on my face. despite my um "Name" I don't have a dog. but I did grow up with lots of pet dogs. It doesn't take a lot for us to learn how to clean up... its a little poo not a bit of nuke-waste.
If you cant clean up after it, don't walk it.
Im sure you have friends or family that will.

You are right, we have a beautiful picturesque area here, and I am so proud to see some great community spirit, clearing out our own river voluntarily and the like.
so it would be nice if we could sort out this dirty little issue... again, I love dogs... just not the brown stains they leave behind.

Thank you for raising this issue.

There is a tun of dog poo near my house, all over the grass with the Daffodils... sort of place I would love to let my daughter walk and smell the flowers... I'm working on teaching her to respect flowers, at her age she should be able to smell them, maybe even touch them, but she knows not to pull them or pick them. Cause its difficult to maintain that lesson when I cant let her enjoy them...
so instead what I am teaching her is basically "Anything nice in life will end up covered in £#!7... and you cant do anything about it"

I have a dog who I walk around the town and I always pick up her poo and put it in one of the many dog bins. I have just come back from walking around the Memorial Hall carpark area and am so angry at the amount of dog s**t that is just left on the pavements and grass. You know who you are, pick up after your dog and don't give the responsible dog owners a bad name.
