Fifty Years of Marriage Celebrated

Today July 3rd we celebrated the Golden Wedding of Alan and Rosemary Watson. It was a wonderful thanksgiving for marriage and the family. The theme of the whole service was love with beautiful music to accompany it all. We all thought about our own marriages and promises.

The Watsons, Elizabeth, Rosemary, Alan and Caroline

Granddaughters, Laura and EmmaCanon Watson took the service and preached. Their daughter who lives here, Elizabeth, led the prayers and their daughter Caroline who had flown over specially from New Zealand did a reading. Their granddaughters in New Zealand, Emma 18 and Laura 8 had made a CD of their singing "How Great Thou Art" with the choir singing in Maori. It was a beautiful tribute and lovely to listen to.

The church was packed with family, friends and parishioners who then afterwards enjoyed refreshments and time to talk to one another.

There was a retiring collection for the Christchurch Cathedral Appeal - the cathedral destroyed in the earthquake - and there is still time to contribute to this.
