Belarus Twinning for Wincanton?

Ob'Chinsk Palace of Culture. Look familiar?

Nikolai Gogol, the Mayor of Ob'chinsk in Belarus, has been in touch to suggest that his town twins with Wincanton.

"Ob'chinsk is only a small town about 200km west of Minsk but we have similar concerns to yours about promoting our development and we are also actively seeking a partnership with a similarly sized town in the UK", says Nikolai.

"However, unlike Wincanton, we have fewer bureaucratic hurdles to overcome when enlightened and socially responsible citizens seek to develop their land, thanks to our National Progressive Planning Framework (NPPF) that prevents local government from putting unnecessary obstacles in their way. We fully subscribe to the laissez-faire theories of Erich von Pickelhauber, the German academic who promotes minimalist interference by so-called planners in the delivery of much -needed housing for local people and at the same time a fair return on their investment for our philanthropic developers.

"We also have similar built-environment to Wincanton," adds Nikolai. "Our Palace of Culture (see photo) shows a remarkable resemblance to yours."

A response from Wincanton Town Council is eagerly anticipated.
